Taut® ADAPt™ laparoscopic access devices represent an industry breakthrough in their engineering, with a completely bladeless tip, a clear cannula, and an advanced seal and valve system not found on any other line.
ADAPt™ ports are designed to replace trocars with metal or plastic blades and their attendant risks. Bladed trocar injury is the number one cause of complications in laparoscopic surgery. ADAPt™ ports eliminate the blades and provide a tip that passes through tissue without cutting, avoiding bladed injury and leaving a 58% smaller defect than the most commonly used bladed trocars. ADAPt™ ports provide the proven advantage.
Ease of Placement
ADAPt™ ports are designed to allow for the application of minimal downward pressure and yet gain peritoneal access in an efficient, controlled manner. The tip “seeks” the path of least resistance through each fascial layer and the peritoneum. An exceptionally smooth “transition zone” between the cannula and the obturator reduces the tendency for tissue to snag on the cannula as the port is placed. The ADAPt™ port's asymmetrical tip design creates a tight, non-linear defect that helps keep the port in place and aids in closure of the defect.
Eliminates Metal and Plastic Bladed Trocars
The unique “blunt dissection” action of the ADAPt™ port eliminates the need for the metal or plastic blades found on most trocars. Studies have shown that bladed trocars are more likely to injure a blood vessel than blunt ports, and many FDA MAUDE reports are associated with the use of both metal and plastic bladed trocars. The completely bladeless tip of the ADAPt™ port eliminates the need for a blade of any type. Several prospective studies have proven the exceptional performance of ADAPt™ ports. Remarkable Port Retention
Asymmetrical dilation maintains tensions in the fascial layers that hold the port securely at the desired depth. No threads, barbs, or anchoring devices that may cause additional tissue distress are required. All ADAPt™ devices offer simply exceptional port retention.
Torn and leaky seals have long been a problem on the most commonly used trocars. The unique ADAPt™ Floating seal™ reduces instrument drag and greatly reduces the likelihood of a seal tear. The seal moves with the instrument, allowing for easier instrument insertions and manipulations.
Procedural Flexibility
Taut® is the only port in the world with a Rotary Duckbill valve design, combining the ease and simplicity of a duckbill valve with a rotary opening mechanism.
The ADAPt™ rotary valve opens 100% with a simple twist, easing the insertion and removal of items through the port to facilitate:
- specimen removal
- insertion of hernia mesh
- passage of needle drivers and curved instruments
- drain placement
- flexible endoscopy
The ADAPt™ clear cannula on all ADAPt™ ports makes it easier for the physician to maintain visualization when manipulating the camera, in contrast to opaque cannulas that cause the abdomen to go dark whenever the camera is inside.
The ADAPt™ ergonomic head design fits easily in the hand and minimizes the profile of the port. By reducing the amount of the port outside the patient, ADAPt™ devices reduce the clutter that can complicate procedures.
